In a lot of ways, Shonen Maid resembles an average sitcom; two estranged family members must learn to live together despite their conflicting personalities.
However, the death of elementary schooler Chihiro's mother effectively mixes up the theme to make a truly heartwarming story.
With her gone the neat-freak Chihiro ends up in the care of his childish, rich uncle, Madoka. Not wanting to be indebted, Chihiro makes a deal with Madoka to cook and clean in his household in order to earn his livelihood.

While Chihiro first seems disconnected and undisturbed by his mother's death, the slow unravel of his pain from displacement and loss sinks in over the first few episodes.
Shonen Maid is a comedy, but the lighthearted nature of the show doesn't overshadow the impact of his mother's death.
As Madoka and Chihiro bicker over cleaning and lean how to be a family, you'll witness a wonderful relationship bloom out of their grief.
